Baffert hospitalized in Dubai
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert underwent surgery after suffering a heart attack in Dubai Monday, according to widely published reports. Baffert is currently in Dubai preparing Game on Dude and The Factor for their respective Group 1 engagements on Saturday, the World Cup and the Golden Shaheen.
Baffert reportedly felt ill Sunday night and complained of chest pains early Monday morning. Admitted to the hospital, he was discovered to have significant arterial blockages, and surgery was performed.
Bernard Schiappa, co-owner of Game on Dude, informed Daily Racing Form of the details.
"Bob had a heart attack," Schiappa said. "He had two blocked arteries. The main one was 100 percent blocked, the other 90 percent. He had two stents put in one artery, one stent in the other.
"Sheikh Mohammed has gone out of his way and got the best help to take care of Bob. He will stay in intensive care until Tuesday, and is expected to get out of the hospital on Thursday. He will have to stay eight to 10 days to recover before he can fly home."
Baffert has two huge chances on World Cup night. Multiple Grade 1 winner Game on Dude, a close runner-up in the Eclipse balloting for champion older male, figures to be among the top betting choices in the World Cup. Outstanding sprinter The Factor is likely to go off heavily favored in the North American pool for the Golden Shaheen. |
